Tan Holdings has presented its first ever Outstanding Citizenship Award on 10 public high school graduates of the CNMI who not only excel academically but are standout members of their community.

In collaboration with the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Tan Holdings launched the award program to recognize the CNMI’s most outstanding public school students who consistently and unconditionally give their time and talents to serve their community and their respective schools. Qualifying schools included Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Saipan Southern High School, Tinian Sr. High School, and Dr. Rita H. Inos Sr. High School (Rota).

Awardees for 2014, two from each public high schools, are the following:

MATTHEW M. LOPEZ, Marianas High School
MAGDIEL A. CORPUZ, Marianas High School
SHAWN O. CAMACHO, Kagman High School
NONGLAK J. KAPILEO, Kagman High School
MARIELLE B. KAPILEO, Saipan Southern High School
BERTRAN DLR. PALACIOS, Saipan Southern High School
KYLE DAVID M. SANDBERGEN, Tinian Sr. High School
CARLYN C. HOFSCHNEIDER, Tinian Sr. High School
MARICEL D. ATALIG, Dr. Rita H. Inos Sr. High School (Rota)
MONA Q. MANGLOÑA, Dr. Rita H. Inos Sr. High School (Rota).

The Outstanding Public High School Citizenship criteria target students who demonstrate strength of character that encourages fellow students, leadership qualities that inspire others, and a commitment to service to others without receiving financial compensation or academic credit.

The Outstanding Citizenship Award focuses on the applicants’ commitment to serve their communities, their demonstrated leadership ability, and their independent character in being an upstanding citizen in the local community.

“When we had this idea to give an award, we really wanted to emphasize the students that really give a lot to their community. So this award is really great for our students because it gives our kids more incentive to excel not only in their studies, but to also be an active member of the community,” said Tan Holdings president Jerry Tan.

Awardees received a plaque of recognition and a gift bag of prizes, including one of the latest electronic tablets and other goods altogether valued at over $1,000. (PR)
