Candidate’s father said to question results of Liberation Day Queen tilt
The father of 2014 Liberation Royal Court second princess Gilitinon “Choi” Aldan Ramangmou has reportedly expressed concerns on how the counting for the 2014 Liberation Queen went down
Liberation Queen committee chair Joan Aquino told Saipan Tribune that Frank Ramangmou called the next morning after the coronation of the 2014 Liberation Queen to express concerns and dispute the counting of the committee.
“The next morning after coronation night, Ramangmou’s father called expressing great concern over the committee that we were not fair,” Aquino said.
Aquino said that during coronation night, the girls had a complimentary stay at the Chalan Kanoa Beach Club for four nights but Ramangmou did not show up.
“She was not present and we also called to remind them of where they will be picked up but she did not show up,” Aquino said.
Liberation Committee chair Vicente Camacho told Saipan Tribune that he does not know exactly what went on because he has not spoken to the families since June 30 during the counting.
“We are being implicated or accused of cheating and I don’t believe that is the case so we need to sit down and explain better in detail on how the fundraising event works,” Camacho said.
“We have to remember that this is a fundraising event and there is no cheating in this matter. We don’t cheat, we accept all the moneys submitted by the families and tickets that we give candidates so that they could go out and sell them,” he added.
Camacho noted that the candidates themselves are allowed to purchase the tickets.
“Again, it is a fundraising event and the main fundraising are from the candidates. I can say this: We did not cheat and the process we use in counting the money is not flawed,” Camacho said.
He said the committee will be meeting today, Monday, to take up the matter, during which they will also clarify the procedures when counting the funds raised from the Liberation Day Queen competition.
Rules and regs
Ramangmou also did not show up for the 2014 Liberation Day parade, despite being required by pageant rules to do so.
Prior to the official pinning ceremony for their candidacy as Liberation Queen, all the candidates sign a contract with the liberation committee. Part of that contract requires them to be available to attend public appearances such as the Liberation Day parade.
Her absence at the parade could cost Ramangmou the second princess title.
According to the rules and regulations set by Liberation Queen committee, all the candidates are issued raffle tickets in batches and must remit payments before additional batches of tickets can be issued.
The candidates are required to sell or purchase tickets that were issued to them no later than the final counting and any unsold tickets will be deducted from tickets sold.
Also stated in the rules and regulations is for the candidates to adhere to all rules and regulations.
The rules and regulations contract is signed by all parents and initialed by all candidates in each section of the guidelines set by the committee.
According to Liberation Committee member Terry Camacho, all candidates, together with their parents, sign the count of the total money that was fundraised.
