The 2014 Liberation Day Queen Committee is appealing to the public for support for its fundraising efforts by buying tickets from those aspiring to become this year’s 2014 Liberation Day Queen.

The four candidates, who were introduced to the public on May 27, 2014, during a pinning ceremony at the Saipan Mayor’s Office, need the public’s help in supporting their candidacy to become this year’s queen.

In the weeks since their introduction, the candidates have been selling tickets at $5 per booklet.

Liberation Day Queen Committee chair Joann Aquino told Saipan Tribune yesterday that the candidates have also been busy doing community volunteerism.

The Liberation Day Queen coronation night will take place at the Garapan Fishing Base on July 2 at 6pm.

This year’s candidates are Pressel Camacho, 15; Desiree Crisostomo, 20; Rita Doca, 19; and Gilitinon Ramangmou, 18.

Camacho, a student at Kagman High School, said it was her childhood dream to run for Liberation Day Queen.

Crisostomo joined the competition to meet new people and have fun. Her inspiration for joining is her sister, Elenita Crisostomo, who ran for Liberation Day Queen in 2001 and became one of the royal princesses.

Doca said she thought it would be fun to join the pageant and that it is one of the many things she could be involved with in the community.

Ramangmou said she joined for experience and that her family motivated her to join. Her inspiration in joining the competition is her sister, Stacy Ramangmou, who egged her to try something new.

According to Aquino, the candidates did a photo shoot last Saturday, June 21, at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort. They will also be on the cover of Beach Road magazine and will take a tour on a U.S. Navy ship this Monday, June 23.

Aquino told Saipan Tribune that the candidates are having free nail and make up done by one of the sponsors and recently added another sponsor, Michelle’s Catering and Restaurant in San Antonio.

According to owner Robert Casilla, sponsoring the candidates is his way of helping out. His restaurant and catering service opened on May 8 and the candidates were treated to free lunch.

The 2014 Liberation Day Queen Committee is also encouraging past Liberation Day queens to attend one of the committee meetings to support this year’s candidates. The next meeting will be at the Saipan Mayor’s Office conference room this Saturday, June 38, at 10am.
