Approximately 500 students attended NMC’s Cash for College Workshop last Saturday, June 21, 2014, to receive assistance in finding funds to pay for college. This is the highest number of students that have participated in the biannual Cash for College workshop, which was introduced several years ago.

At the workshop, the students received personal, step-by-step assistance in completing college financial aid forms for various federal and local scholarships and grants including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, the Saipan Higher Education Financial Aid, the CNMI Scholarship, and the College Access Challenge Grant Scholarship.

The Northern Marianas College saw the highest number of participants since 2009 with approximately 500 students attending the workshop. Participants of the event received assistance in filling financial aid forms for the federal financial aid program, the CNMI Scholarship, SHEFA, and other programs. (NMC)

In addition, staff members from the college’s Office of Admissions and Records were present to provide information and assistance with the NMC application process.

The workshop participants also received free notary and copying services, as well as fee waivers for the NMC admission application fee and placement tests for the upcoming fall 2014 semester.

The participants included recent graduates from Marianas High School, Kagman High School, Saipan Southern High School, and other private high schools. Some of the participants also included parents of students and students currently enrolled at NMC.

Roman Tudela, who is a continuing NMC student said, “Every time I hear about the Cash for College workshop I mark my calendar, put a reminder on my phone. I don’t want to miss such a great event that makes it easier for me to continue at NMC.”

“We are very pleased that more and more students are taking advantage of Cash for College” said NMC dean of Student Services Leo Pangelinan. “It was rewarding to see many students maximize financial aid opportunities that will help them with their educational journey.”

Students who missed the recent Cash for College workshop can visit NMC’s Financial Aid Office in Room N-1 at the As Terlaje campus (Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4:30pm) or contact the office at (670) 237-6792 to get assistance with filling out forms.

The free Cash for College workshop was made possible through financial support from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Access Challenge Grant program. (NMC)
