Three teams have nicked wins in the first day of the Saipan Baseball League U12 Baseball Tournament last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan softball field in Susupe.

After a triple-header that began with the 9-12 age group of the teams Toros and Twins, the Toros won, 13-2; then, the Braves silenced the Blue Jays, 10-0; and the Comets defeated the Little Cubs, 14-4, to finish up the first round-robin games.

The Toros, led by pitcher Leighton Tenorio, overpowered the Twins later in the game as they made 11 unanswered runs. Tenorio went three for three at-bats and struck out seven Twins batters.

The Toros put up two runs in the first inning when Tenorio got on base and rounded home after Caleb Reyes’ RBI, then Kainoa Tenorio’s RBI base-hit brought in Reyes.

Then, in the second inning, Toros’ Sky Lizama hit a single, stole second and then third base, but was tagged out on his way home.

The only two runs by the Twins were made in the second inning by Mymy and A.J.. The rest of the lineup could not get anymore runs against the Toros and lost in a 11-run deficit.
After, the Braves went on to win a shutout game against the Blue Jays, 10-0.

The Braves put up two runs in the first inning from brothers Damian and Dayton Merchadesch.

Both boys scored two more runs in the next inning after four runs scored from the middle to the end of the lineup. One more run scored by Aiken Norita on a double by Don Barcinas.

In the last inning, their last run came in from a triple off Keoni Rosario’s bat. The Blue Jays only had three hits against Braves pitcher Damian and ended the game without a single run scored.

In the Comets-Little Cubs game, the Comets had a field day against Little Cubs pitcher Tatum Jones. The Comets scored three runs in the first inning, then two in the second for a three run lead as the Little Cubs only scored two.

Three more runs came from the bats of the Comets in the next inning, followed by just one run, but finished it off with five runs for a 14-run game.

The Comets’ leadoff batter Kody Guerrero scored two of his team’s runs and got on base in all his four at-bats. Mallens also scored two runs for the team.

For the Little Cubs, after Tatum scored the first run, Don Camacho scored the second and the third, while Liam Palacios scored their fourth run.

This Saturday, July 29, the Blue Jays will go up against the Comets at 9:30am; then the Little Cubs vs. the Twins at 12pm; and the Toros vs. Braves at 2:30pm.

After the round-robin games, there will be a one-game elimination for the playoffs.
