Hundreds of families and individuals flocked to the Liberation Day Festival grounds at Garapan Fishing Base last Saturday to see the night’s firework show, making the crowd the largest since the beginning of the festivities and closing out the festivities to mark the 77th Liberation Day in the CNMI.
After nearly a 30-minute delay due to pouring rain and other circumstances, the firework show lasted close to 10 minutes but it was one that left several individuals saying the show had some of the best fireworks they’ve ever seen at the Liberation Day Festival.
During the festivities’ closing ceremony, 2023 Liberation Day Committee chair Nadine Deleon Guerrero shared her appreciation for all the hard work of the committee members, all community partners, sponsors, and supporters. She also shared her appreciation for the donations from the offices of the Governor and Lt. Governor, House Speaker Edmund Villagomez (Ind-Saipan), House floor leader Rep. Ed Propst (D-Saipan), and Rep. Joe Flores (Ind-Saipan) in making the night’s fireworks possible.
While awaiting the fireworks, the stage was filled with performances by various dance groups, LDC 2023 Battle of the Band’s winners Sugarking, the Drag Queens and Budweiser, MARPAC, and Paul Guerrero sponsored group Biggah and Bettah from Guam.
The 2023 festivities began last July 1, with the theme “Resilience Rising,” to signify the CNMI’s ongoing recovery from Typhoon Soudelor, Super Typhoon Yutu, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the recent devastation of Typhoon Mawar on Rota and Guam.
