The Saipan Baseball League U12 Baseball Tournament is a go for tomorrow, July 22, at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Pangelinan softball field in Susupe.

There are six teams in the 9- to 12-year-old age group tourney—Toros, Blue Jays, Little Cubs, Comets, Braves, and Twins—vying for the top spot in the two-week tourney.

Tomorrow’s games are set to start at 9:30am between the Toros and the Twins. It will be followed at 12pm by the Blue Jays vs. the Braves and at 2:30pm, the Little Cubs will take on the Comets.

On Saturday, July 29, the Blue Jays will go up against the Comets at 9:30am; then the Little Cubs vs. the Twins at 12pm; and the Toros vs. Braves at 2:30pm.

After the round-robin games, there will be a one-game elimination for the playoffs.

SBL board member Shine Tenorio said that the tournament is a long time coming for young ball players and to get them started on playing baseball again. He said since the Saipan Little League Baseball season has been on hiatus for the past five years or so due to Super Typhoon Yutu and the COVID-19 pandemic, this tournament is a chance for them to play on the field again, which is the ultimate goal for SBL.

There are more opportunities to play baseball for CNMI’s youth as the University of Guam Tritons baseball team is hosting a baseball clinic and friendship tournament at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The clinic/friendship tourney is next Friday, July 28, from 1pm to 4pm. It’s open for 16- to 21-year-olds; on Saturday, July 29, then for U12 from 9am to 11am; and for U15 from 12pm to 2pm.
