The CK Bears tore through the Blue Jays, 14-1, in the 2023 Tan Holdings-Saipan Baseball League season last Saturday, while the Bandits defeated the Natives, 6-4, last Friday, at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.

The Blue Jays struck first as they scored one in the first inning on Alvin Takai’s RBI single, but that was all they wrote as their offense was shut down the whole game.

The Bears, however, were just getting started. Their offense was helped largely by the Blue Jays’ faltering defense and scored four for an early lead.

The Bears were relentless and scored six more in the second inning for a huge 10-1 lead.

The top and middle of the Bears’ lineup put in the work for the team as Virgil Secharmidal hit an RBI triple and was followed up by base hit after base hit from his teammates.

They didn’t score in the third inning, but the Blue Jays didn’t either and the Bears still had a wide lead. Four more came in the last inning for the Bears and it was game over as the Blue Jays could not retaliate and it ended in the fifth inning on a mercy-ruling.

In the Bandits-Natives game, three last minute runs in the last inning put the Bandits in the lead and stole the W from the Natives.

Harry Nakamura, Roy Norita, and Greg Sablan rounded home after their singles thanks to some field errors by the Natives which cost them the game.

The Natives could only put up one more run in the last inning and fell by a 2-run deficit to the Bandits, 4-6.

In other games, the Brewers blanked the Junior Nationals, 2-0 last Thursday.

Last Tuesday, the Cardinals-Braves game was rained out and will continue this week.

The playoffs began last night and is set to end on Thursday, July 20. Next week’s championship schedule is yet to be announced.
