The Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club and its sister organization, Saipan Maga’Haga Lady Eagles Club, are calling on all interested teams to attend an organizational meeting tomorrow, July 14, 6pm at the Gualo Rai basketball court.
Commissioner Sonny Ebuen said the league will have three divisions—youth (14-and-under), open (18-and-above), and masters (40-and-above) divisions.
He said so far 12 teams have shown interest in joining the open division and added that if the participating teams increase to 14-16, he will divide the teams into two brackets.
First 10 teams to pay the entrance fee will get guaranteed slots in the open divisions.
For the masters and youth divisions, Ebuen said, six and four teams, respectively, have made inquiries to join the league.
The tentative opening date for the Magalahi Eagles basketball league is July 30 and two games will be played at the Gualo Rai basketball court every day, except Sunday. The first game starts at 6pm and the second will commence at 7:30pm.
Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club president Dennis Cortez their organization is holding a basketball league to commemorate them adopting the sports venue.
He said they adopted the Gualo Rai basketball court so they can have a venue for their many basketball clinics. To this end, Saipan Magalahi Eagles Club has painted the basketball court, fixed the benches, installed lights for night games, and built a committee shed for table officials.
Entrance fee for the league is $650 and Cortez said he is still looking for sponsors for the competition.
