July 4th 2-miler tomorrow
Run, jog, or walk this July 4th before festivities begin as Run Saipan presents its 3rd Annual 4th of July Independence Day 2-Mile Race this Tuesday morning.
The route is from the Garapan Fishing Base, heading south on the Beach Road Pathway and back for an easy 2-mile course.
This race is sponsored by Latte Built and is a sanctioned race by Northern Marianas Athletics.
This race was inspired by the U.S. Army Combat Physical Fitness Test, in which they do a 2-mile run among other workouts.
Last year, the overall finisher went to Michael Denevan with a time of 12 minutes flat. First place for the women’s division went to Dr. Lily Muldoon at 12:49.
Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said of the race, “The difference this year is that it’s a standard 2-mile race like the first one. No swag give outs this year. Just people who want to get a 2-miler in for 4th of July. Prizes will be a surprise for the people who show up.”
Last year, they had a “Pie Challenge” in which members of the CNMI National Athletics Team got to smash pies on national coach Dr. Ron Snyder, sprints coach David Shamburger, and Run Saipan president Edward S. Dela Cruz Jr. if they outran them in the race.
