The Man Amigos powered past the Redmen, 17-7, in the men’s division semifinals of the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League last June 11 at the DanDan Softball Field.

It was a battle between No. 5 Man Amigos and last place Redmen with the Man Amigos drawing first blood in the first inning.

After a measly three runs in two innings for the Redmen, the Man Amigos blew the game wide open in the fourth inning as they scored 12.

Before this, the game was tied at four apiece, but with a breakdown of Redmen pitching and the start of a red-hot Man Amigos offense, the game ended early on mercy-ruling.

The Redmen’s Rick Bauer had a solo shot in the second inning, Lefty Shiro had one of his own in the third, followed by a two-run home run by pitcher Greg Magofna. Even with the home runs, it wasn’t enough to dissuade the Man Amigos from scoring runs.

The Man Amigos started their crushing blow to the Redmen with multiple base hits. Then two home runs registered off the bats of Manny Sablan and Joey Dela Cruz. An additional grand slam by Vinnie Sablan cleared the bases and ensured a huge lead even before the inning ended.

They went twice through the lineup in that single inning and Mark Toves ended up with two RBI doubles. The inning finally ended but not until the dust cleared and the game was now 17-4.

Feeling defeated, the Redmen tried to stage a failed comeback as the lead was too great to chip away at and scored only one run in the fourth and two in the last inning.

The other semifinals game between Peleliu and Hagu La’mun was rescheduled to this Sunday, July 2, at 10am with the men’s championship game at 12pm.

The women’s division championship Game 2 against the Lady Blue Jays and the Hot Shots is set for 11am.
