Sablan, Igitol are BASA Home Run Derby king and queen

Cartfield Sablan defended his Home Run Derby title as he hit the most home runs again, while Maribel Igitol took the title of Home Run queen in the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association Home Run Derby last June 11 at the DanDan Softball Field.
Sablan was tied with Ton Pangelinan with three home runs each in the first round. A tie-breaker second round was forced and the crown went to Sablan as Pangelinan couldn’t hit any out of the park this time around. Sablan hit one to secure the title of Home Run King.
Third place went to Dominic Hideo as he won the second round with one home run. In the first round, Hideo, Darwin Masaharu, and Audie Maratatita were tied with two each.

Igitol, in the first round of the women’s division, hit three home runs for the win. Heather Kladikm hit one for second place. Meanwhile, Kianu Aldan, Kiana Camacho, and Keyona Tudela didn’t hit any so they had a second round for third place.
Aldan took third place after she hit three home runs. Camacho hit two, while Tudela hit one.
In 2022’s Home Run Derby, Sablan was the men’s division champion, while Allana Sumang won the women’s division.
Currently, the 2023 BASA league is on a break and will resume its championship round this Sunday, June 25.
