Chalan Kiya/Loving Hands' Dante Tabora, seen here puling up for a free throw during their game against San Roque/Morales in the MDX caging early last month, scored 19 points in their 75-64 win over Dandan/Hawaiian Rock last Dec. 25 at the Civic Center Basketball Court. (Roselyn B. Monroyo)San Antonio/Gene’s Barber closed out the year on top of the team standings in Bracket A of the 2011 MDX Amateur Radio Club Inter-Village Friendship League after beating Chalan Kanoa/Fong’s Bakery, 60-55, on Christmas Day at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.

San Antonio now has a 6-1 record in the nine-team field, one win ahead of JHEM’s Restaurant (5-1). Chalan Kanoa dropped to a 4-2 record and now shares third place with Susupe/Armatech. Koblerville/GEC (3-4), Chalan Laulau/AON (2-3), Tanapag/FGC (2-3), San Jose CP Repair (0-5), and Puerto Rico/Triskellion (0-5) complete the field.

Jack Aranda made two free throws in the home stretch to seal the win for San Antonio. He finished with 13 markers, just one point behind San Antonio’s leading scorer Bryl Alegre.

Jun Tabora led all scorers with 25, but still failed to lift his team to a win as he was held to only two field goals in the last five minutes of the match.

San Antonio led from the opening tip to the finish, capitalizing on Chalan Kanoa’s slow start. Chalan Kanoa was limited to eight points in the first period.
