The Northern Marianas Athletics is hosting its Track and Field Open Challenge Road to Oceania Cup 2023 this Friday, June 9, and Saturday, June 10, at the Oleai Track and Field.
On Friday, the events are set to start at 5:30pm.
The events that day are the javelin throw, long jump, 100m sprints, 1,500m, 400m, and 3,000m steeplechase.
On Saturday, the events start at 4pm.
The events are the shot put throw, 800m, 200m, discus, 3,000m, and 4x100m relay.
Robin Sapong, NMA general secretary, said of this meet, “As we approach the OAA Cup, this will be a good pre-competition meet preparation for our local athletes and coaches. From NMA officials, it is considered a dry run.”

Based on evaluation of athletes in this meet, coaches will determine whether or not there will be another meet before the Oceania Athletics Association Championships. This meet was originally scheduled for last May 26 to 27, but due to the passing of Typhoon Mawar, it was postponed.
NMA is still seeking volunteers for the Oceania Cup and Oceania Masters this June 22 to 26.
Contact nmi@mf.worldathletics.org if you are interested in volunteering.
Over 100 athletes will take part in the Oceania Cup, representing six teams from across the Pacific.
Oceania Athletics has selected teams representing each region of the Pacific—Micronesia, Polynesia, and Melanesia, with the Northern Marianas and Australia the only two federations having their own team.
Twelve gold medalists from the 2022 Northern Marianas Pacific Mini Games are coming back to Saipan. The Oceania Cup also provides an opportunity to qualify for the Budapest World Championships and Paris Olympics, with the same number of ranking points as the 2023 Pacific Games.
