The Marianas Skate Series skateboarding competition that was set for last Saturday has been moved to June 10 at the skatepark between Gold’s Gym and the Garapan Central Park.

The youth clinic is at 9am, the jam session is at 11am, and the expert division competition is at 1:30pm.

Competitors will have two 45-second runs and five tricks to perform. They will be judged on creativity, degree of difficulty, and execution. There are two rounds in the Olympic street skate format called 2/5/3.

There will be prizes for first, second, and third—including brand new skateboard decks.

Edward Manibusan, organizer of the event said “We felt that the typhoon, cleanup, and erratic weather this week played a major role in postponing the event. Cleanup efforts and safety is a priority concern of the Marianas Surf Skate League. Also valuable practice time for the competitors was affected this past week. We want to give our competitors the best chance to practice going into this event so they can really showcase their skills.”

There are currently 10 skaters competing in the expert division with the age range from 17 to 30 years old.

“It will be an exciting competition… The semifinals will pit all the skaters against each other and the Top 4 overall scores will compete in the final round for the championship crown,” said Manibusan.

He added, “We are opening the registration deadline up until one hour before the scheduled competition. So if you want to test your skills against the CNMIs best, there is time to register.”

The official registration is on their Instagram account @marianas.surfskate.league.

The Marianas Surf Skate League is a non-profit organization formed to promote the sports of surfing and skateboarding in the CNMI through events, competitions, and youth clinics.

The sponsors of the event are MARPAC, Pokka, Boarderline, All Star Sporting Goods, DLNR Parks and Recreations, Marianas Visitors Authority, Saipan Mayor’s Office, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services, Saipan Surf Company, Salty Skin Pacific, Local Bones, and Caravan Restaurant.
