Guam port has reopened; Matson unloads cargo
The Port Authority of Guam and the U.S. Coast Guard have declared Apra Harbor and the Port of Guam safe and open to all commercial vessel traffic and cargo operations.
Matson’s vessel, Maunawili 234W, originally scheduled to arrive Tuesday, May 23, has now docked and cargo operations have commenced.
“ We have requested open gate hours during the Memorial Day holiday to allow deliveries to commence as soon as possible,” the company said in a statement yesterday.
It said that refrigerated containers have been fully powered throughout the voyage and, those not picked up immediately by customers will continue to be powered with available resources in the terminal.
The company also confirmed that Matson shipments remain on schedule for the coming weeks.
“Our next two scheduled Guam voyages remain on time, with Manoa 483W showing an [expected time of arrival] of Tuesday, May 30, and Manukai 237W showing an ETA the following Tuesday, June 6,” Matson added.
As a result of the recent deployment of Matson’s two newest vessels, Matsonia and Lurline, into its CLX service, each of these ships will call Guam every five weeks, adding regularly scheduled roll-on/roll-off capabilities for Matson customers.
Before Sunday, the Port of Guam was closed as teams inspected and evaluated waterways, facilities and equipment. Matson earlier assured that it remains in contact with the Port Authority of Guam and the U.S. Coast Guard and will keep its customers apprised of developments.
