Despite the humid and rainy weather and the event coinciding with Father’s Day, this year’s Pistang Pinoy was still successful, according to United Filipino Organization’s Mario Mayuga.

The event was held last Sunday, June 15, at the Garapan Fishing Base across the Kristo Rai Church and started as early as 7am, ending at 8pm.

“The turnout is pretty good but not that many people, but it was still a successful event,” Mayuga told Saipan Tribune.

The event kicked off with the medical mission spearheaded by the Tau Gamma Phi with more than 200 availing of the free health checkups by the group, Hardt Eye Clinic, and Brabu Pharmacy and other volunteers. The medical mission ended at 11am and continued later in the afternoon.

UFO president Annamae Adaza led the welcoming remarks at 12pm, while Tan Holdings senior vice president Eli Arago gave an inspirational talk.

The Nipa Hut making contest was won by Isabelita Salcedos, who took first place. Second place went to Miles Navarro, while third place went to Veronica Dantic.

In the Kids Drawing contest, Tricia Salcedo took first place and Ramhae Awit took second place.

Performers entertained the crowd during the whole-day festivity. They included Rolly Capayas and the High Pitch Band, Star Engine, Rannie Enriquez, Mix Jam Pinoy Rock Band, Glenn Mesina, Prinze The Magician, Out-of-the-Ordinary Band, Keynotes School of Music, Saipan Music and Dance, Erica and Lawrence Tubera, Zumba Group, Froilan de Leon, and Donato Santiago, who did a tribute to fathers for Father’s Day.

The Pinoy Super Mom candidates were also introduced to the community during the event.

Adaza said that she would like to thank all sponsors and donors that helped make the event successful. Major sponsors of Pistang Pinoy include Docomo Pacific, in cooperation with LBC Mabuhay, Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Coca-Cola, Marpac, Dollar Days, and KWAW 100.3 FM.
