Games postponed this week because of Typhoon Mawar

The ongoing sports leagues in the CNMI have canceled their games starting yesterday due to Typhoon Mawar.
For safety of the players, officials, and audience, the Tan Holdings-Saipan Baseball League 2023 has decided to postpone their games last night and tonight, said SBL president Jay Santos. Games are played at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Baseball Field.
The postponed games for yesterday are the Bandits versus the Junior Nationals; today’s game is supposed to be between the Cardinals and Falcons.
As for the 2023 Michelob Ultra Cup Men’s Islandwide Basketball League playoffs, yesterday’s games between Martech-Ol’Aces and New Changming Market and Save More versus Team Marianas were postponed.
The games are moved to tomorrow, Thursday, May 25, or depending on the storm’s aftermath, said Marlene Lumabi, Northern Mariana Islands Basketball Federation director and league commissioner.
Thursday’s set of games will be moved to Friday, May 26. Games are played at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
For soccer, the Northern Marianas Football Federation said in an email that it is canceling its 2023 Dove Women’s League: Premiere games today. Games are played at the Northern Marianas Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
They will also cancel today and Friday’s U15 Boys tryouts. The first tryout date will be on Saturday, May 27, instead.
For athletics, the Northern Marianas Athletics Open Track Meet set for Thursday and Friday is most likely postponed, said NMA general secretary Robin Sapong.
Postponed games will be rescheduled at a later date.
As for weekend sporting events such as the Marianas Skate Series scheduled for Saturday, May 27, organizer David Cabrera said it’s still a go.
The Run Saipan Mangrove 5K is also still set for Saturday at 6am.
