SaeHee Kim won the CNMI Women’s Golf Association’s first monthly tournament of the season after topping the May edition last Saturday, May 13, at the Coral Ocean Golf Resort.
Kim shot a net 61 after firing a gross of 76. The 15-handicapper fired a 40 in the front nine before improving by four strokes in the back nine for a terrific 36.
“The weather was so hot with no wind. But the course was so nice and well maintained,” she said about last Saturday’s playing conditions.
Asked what worked for her during the May tournament, Kim pretty much said almost every aspect of her game was automatic.
“My driver, iron, putter was working so well. I was so satisfied with my game last Saturday,” she said.
Kim then dedicated her win to her loving family, especially her husband, Wan Sub Lee, who also serves as her coach.
“I am so honored to be the winner of the month at the beginning of the new season,” she said.

It marked only the second time Kim has won in the CWGA after recording her breakthrough win last March.
CGWA president Yuko Togawa was a distant second with a net of 68. The 9-handicapper shot a gross of 77 built around a 39 and 38 in the first and last nine holes, respectively.
Third place went to Sophia Jang who came away with a stroke higher than Togawa’s total with her 69. She carded a 44 in the front nine before retiring with a 43 in the back nine for a gross of 87 for the 18-handicapper.
Nineteen-handicapper Terry Guerrero actually tied Jang for third but lost via scorecard tiebreaker. The former got to 69 via the strength of her 45-44 and gross 88 score.
