Tania breaks 10K PR to end the season
The CNMI’s Tania Tan set a new personal record in the 10,000m event during the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of Massachusetts last May 6.
Tan runs for Fordham University in New York and has reset her record in the 10K by completing the outdoor course in 37:10.89.
She shaved almost a whole minute off her recent best of 38:27.06 from April’s 57th Colonial Relays at William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia.
“I am happy that I was able to break my 10K PR. It feels nice knowing that all my hard work has paid off. Hopefully I can keep progressing and continue to get faster! We shall see,” she said about breaking her personal record.
She wrapped up her season with one more race last Saturday at the ECAC/IC4A Championship in Fairfax, Virginia.
She fared with an 18:17 for her 5K. “My body is just tired from the 10K and 5K double last weekend. I kind of knew a PR wasn’t in me. But overall, still happy to end the season healthy with new PRs,” she said of her performance in her senior year of college.
“Since it’s the end of the season, I’ve mostly been trying to get as much rest and recovery as possible. Sleep and [nutrition] have been the main priority as the season comes to a close,” she said about her training.
CNMI national athletics coach Dr. Ron Snyder said of the former Saipan International School track star, “One [of] the proudest moments for any coach is when an athlete perseveres and exceeds their personal goals. Tania consistently seeks to improve herself and make SIS and the CNMI proud. The pandemic was a difficult time for all athletes and I am glad that the NCAA has extended eligibility another year. Expect more great things to come from Tania!”
She will be making her way to Saipan next month and will race in the 4th Oceania Cup from June 22 to 24—which she said she is “super excited about.”
