30 volunteers for Best Sunshine survey
Best Sunshine International, Ltd. has 30 volunteers that will soon conduct a survey on five precincts on Saipan to obtain a general look at the thoughts and feelings of people on the quality of life on the islands.
Community Development Institute acting director Floyd Masga said that they partnered with Best Sunshine to conduct this community needs assessment for Saipan.
“Under NMC’s part we have facilitated the recruitment of the surveyors and 30 of them are going to be conducting the survey and have undergone specific statistical data training,” Masga said.
Grace Fu, a representative of Best Sunshine, said that she trained the students in terms of how to respond to questions that might be proposed by the people being surveyed.
Fu confirmed that about 30 students from NMC and some community members will conduct the survey of some 600 people.
“It’s just so we have that statistical difference and that large sampling and, of course, we can have a good size answer,” Fu said.
According to Fu, the survey will be done in three days. She said the survey will cover five precincts on Saipan in order to get a good distribution of random sampling and they will be aiming for certain areas in the precincts.
Fu noted that students will be using eight rental cars provided to the volunteers.
According to Fu, respondents to the survey have to be 18 years old and above, U.S citizens, Saipan permanent residents, or citizens of the Freely Associated States, Federated States of Micronesia, or Palau.
NMC past president Carmen Fernandez said their objective is to reach out to people and get their thoughts and feelings on the quality of life on the islands.
“We hope that we format the survey to be able to capture those that are of critical concerns for families,” Fernandez said.
The survey has nine parts that includes education, living conditions for water service, electricity consumption, transportation and travel services, employment and work, retirement fund, medical services, religious life, and other opinions and suggestions. Respondents will also be asked for their background information.
