Ol’Aces ‘repeats’ against Ali’i in Mich Ultra Cup

Martech Ol’Aces defeated an Ali’i team for a second time in less than a week in the 2023 Michelob Ultra Cup Men’s Islandwide Basketball League last Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
After beating Ali’i last Saturday in the 2nd Annual Saipan Centennial Lions Basketball League, Martech Ol’Aces doubled up on their rivals, 79-71, in the first game of the Mich Ultra Cup.
Ol’Aces and Ali’i were in a dogfight all game long before the latter lost steam in the end as the former remained perfect in the young season at 2-0. Ali’i dropped to a 1-1 record.
Airson Atan led all scorers with 20 points, while Preston Basa and Riley Brungard chipped in 14 points apiece.
Jonel Broncano scored 15 points before fouling out late in the game for Ali’i. Brendon Talania also added a dozen in the loss.
In the second game, New Chang Ming Market survived being double-booked in the Mich Ultra Cup and SCLC caging by beating Unity Trade, 92-81.
Gino Asauo scattered 27 points for New Chang Ming Market (2-0), while Mark Ferrer fired a game-high 32 points for Unity Trade (1-1) in the loss.
Last Sunday, CK Saints (1-1) blasted Bridge Capital LLC (0-2) in the opener, 120-55. In the second game, Socho (1-1) nipped Roil Soil OG (0-2), 83-81, thanks to a last-second shot by Henry Aguon.
