Torchbearers blaze through 3,000m in last HS qualifiers

The Agape Christian School Torchbearers torched their competition in the last high school 18U 3,000m qualifiers in the NMA/PSS All Schools Athletics 2022-2023 last Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field.

In the 18U boys competition, Samuel Zhu came in first with a time of 11:25.71; second was Takeru Jim from Grace Christian Academy at 11:51.64; and Jake Moncada of Tinian High School 12:23.81

The 18U girls 3,000m was a close one with Eunice Xu coming in first at 12:43.50; second was Tiana Cabrera from Saipan International School at 12:56.26; and third was ACS’ Emma Pang at 14:10.60.

The other event was the boys and girls 800m, with the boys competition led by Cody Shimizu from Marianas High School at 2:13.94; Caleb Cui from ACS was second at 2:14.83; and Miles Linden from GCA was third at 2:25.79.

In the girls race, Eunice Xu was first again with a time of 2:47.12; Summer Manahane from Saipan Southern High School was second at 3:03.08; and third was Emma Pang at 3:09.36.

The shortest sprint event of the day was the boys and girls 200m. Augustin Palacios from THS was first at 25.30; second was Caleb Cui at 25.58; and third was Bonny Gonzales from THS at 28.16 seconds.

Heat 2 was led by Cody Shimizu with 24.97; second was Jasper Hall from GCA at 25.25; and third was Justice Aldan from THS at 26.11 seconds.

Heat 3 Top 2 were Matthew Sarmiento from THS at 24.70 and Kobe Imperial from SSHS at 28.85.

The girls’ Top 3 was Edwardina Flamar from Kagman High School at 30.54; Priscilla Cheng from ACS at 32.06; and Ha’ani Passi from SSHS at 32.68.

Heat 2 Top 4 was Casey Cruz from SSHS at 28.35; Sunny Wang at 32.71; THS’ Mary Manuel at 34.27; and teammate Serenity Guzman at 37.27.

Heat 3 was dominated by Filomenaleonisa Iakopo from SIS at 28.45; second was Tsubakiko Joab from KHS at 32.27; and Denise Miguel was third at 33.06.

In the 18U boys shot put event, the Stallions dominated the Top 3. Matua San Nicolas was first with 12.37m; Keith Nabors was second with 10.25m; and Mefi Norech was third at 9.93m.

In the 18U girls shot put, Ruth Zhang from ACS topped it at 8.10m; second was Karisse Ong from THS at 6.88m; and Jasmine John from SSHS was third with 6.85m.

The last field event was the discus throw, with the 18U boys dominated by the Stallions once again. Matua San Nicolas was first at 30.05m; second was Keith Nabors at 28.99m; and third was Marcial Patio at 26.78m.

For the girls discus throw, Kina Rangamar from MHS threw the farthest at 17.15m; second was Abbygaile Ong from THS at 16.94m; and third was teammate Julia Medicielo at 16.58.

Results of the last middle school qualifiers will be posted in the next editions of Saipan Tribune.
