MS wraps up 1st day of athletics qualifiers

Middle school students took to the track to start off the 14U qualifiers in the NMA/PSS All Schools Athletics 2022-2023 last Wednesday at the Oleai Sports Complex track and field.
The events they participated in were the 200m, 800m, 3,000m, shot put, and discus.
In the 14U boys 200m, first place was Audiescott Iakopo from Saipan International School with a time of 26.17; second was Shulun He of Agape Christian School at 27.56; and Emerson Brillo from Hopwood Middle School came in third with 27.69 seconds.
Aubrey White from SIS led the 14U girls 200m with 31.11; second was Paige Blanco from ChaCha OceanView Middle School at 31.67; and third was Alyssa Mendiola from DanDan Middle School at 31.87 seconds.
Michael Miller from Grace Christian Academy topped the 14U boys 800m with a time of 2:18.88; second was Landen Taflinger from DMS with 2:32.61; and third was D’Anthony Aldan from Francisco M. Sablan Middle School at 2:32.87.
The 14U girls 800m was dominated by Addalee Taflinger of DMS under three minutes at 2:50.19; followed by Aubrey White at 3:04.86; and Barbara Wang from ACS at 3:06.23.
Michael Miller was still the fleetest afoot as he sprinted through the 14U boys 3,000m into first place with a time of 10.58.94; far behind him in second was Yong Lin of HMS at 13:51.75; and third was Emerson Brillo at 14:19.89.
Barbara Wang was first in the 14U girls 3,000m at 13:31.31; Emma Sablan from Saipan Community School was second at 14:09.62; and Faith Arriola from SIS came in third at 14:20.84.
In the 14U boys shot put event, D’Anthony Aldan came out on top with a distance of 8.00m; Yong Lin was second with 7.39m; and third was Aiden Gimed of FMS with 7.35m.
For the 14U girls shot put, Kailani Laniyo from DMS was first with 7.79m; second was Phoenix Gross from SIS with 5.79m; and Mikenna Nishimura from FMS was third at 5.79m.
Top 3 of the 14U boys discus throw were DMS students Zion Rogopes with 21.81m; Ceber Terry with 19.29; and Deion Tupas with 16.83.
Top 3 of the 14U girls discus throw were Taylor Cruz from COVMS with 14.19m; Kailani Laniyo with 13.75; and Jaida Harris with 12.64.
