The CNMI continues to see an upward trend in fuel prices, with Mobil Oil Marianas leading the way with another 15-cent increase, just a little over a week since the last price hike.
The last price increase happened last Tuesday, with oil companies increasing their prices by 15 cents. Yesterday afternoon, Mobil Oil Marianas raised its gas prices again by 15 cents. Shell Marianas is expected to follow suit today.
Mobil Oil Marianas now charges $5.41 per gallon of its Extra Fuel from 5.26 per gallon. Mobil also raised its Supreme fuel from $5.71 per gallon to $5.86 while diesel remains at $5.73 per gallon.
According to a 53-year-old motorist, he is upset with the seesawing fuel prices. “I don’t understand the increase, decrease, then increase again. Might as well keep it at either a high or low price and leave it until they have to hike it up by, like, 50 cents or something. This is ridiculous,” he said.
Another motorist said he should’ve followed his gut and filled his tank the day before.
“I was honestly thinking about gassing my truck the other day but I was like ‘I’ll just go tomorrow after work.’ That was a bad decision because when I got off, gas was increased again. Should’ve followed my gut,” he said.
