Cashing in on Christ’s Crucifixion
Well, Mel Gibson’s movie came and it went
it caused a few to reflect and a few to repent
filled with gratuitous violence and Biblical blunders
it was a box office smash—a wonder of wonders
The biggest movie about Jesus in many many years
had childish demons and Mary weeping glycerine tears
Gibson used a German mystic’s vision to portray Christ’s passion
with original spoken languages in current art film fashion
There couldn’t have been more latex ripped flesh and stage blood
it was shown over and over as it came out in a flood
this action movie star turned director rubbed our faces in it
when money is to be made that’s the way movie moguls will spin it
Again and again they hit Christ and did not stop
and kept spitting in his face to prevent a film flop
so now this blockbuster film replete with religiosity
is destined to become a ‘snuff film’ curiosity
Passion was toppled at the box office by Dawn of the Dead
an old zombie movie remake—need any more be said
next on top was a comic book film called Hellboy
with more violent action to bring a sick kind of joy
Multiplexes worldwide overflowed with millions in cash
As people paid to watch more and more violent trash
those now weary of this egregious greedy gravity
can perhaps look forward to a new film of the Nativity.
