The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. Sunshine Squad and Run Saipan presents the second Happy Hearts 5K Fun Run & Walk today at 5:30pm.

With the race just before sunset, Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said he expects a good amount of people to join.

“It’s one of the few sunset runs we have scheduled in the year. Dr. [Jenna] Kong wanted her race to be a sunset run since the majority of our races are Saturday mornings. Friday was also the day she always wanted the CHCC 5K to be placed on so people can look forward to sleeping in Saturday morning,” he said.

The course starts from the Garapan Fishing Base to just past the Japanese Tank Memorial along Quartermaster Road and back. Dela Cruz said, “We held it there last year and will do so again this year. When we don’t have a crazy race format planned our go to flat 5K route is Garapan Fishing Base.”

The inaugural race last year was topped by Kosuke Sato in the men’s division in a solid time of 20:05. Among the women, Ayano Braxton was the fastest with a time of 23:58.
