Momma Charo smacks Tuturamz, 16-14

Momma Charo gave the Tuturamz a good smackin’ with a 16-14 win in the 2023 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League last Sunday at the DanDan Softball Field.

Tuturamz led in the first couple of innings, 4-0, with a lead off home run by Jack Cepeda and as pitcher Henry Reyes put in the work for easy back-to-back out up and down the lineup.

But in the third inning, Momma Charo awoke from their slumber and by the time Reyes stopped the bleeding, eight runs scored—on account of some fielding errors by Tuturamz, for an 8-5 game.

Tuturamz were silenced by Momma Charo pitcher Leo Bobai and could only score three runs in two innings—and by the last inning, it was a 11-7 game in favor of the latter.

The lead stretched further away from Tuturamz’s grasp as Momma Charo batters brought in five more runs, thanks to multiple base hits by top of the lineup batters Barry Maratita, Chico Ilo, J.J. Laniyo, and Joe Kapileo.

With the last at-bat given to Tuturamz, they managed to bring in seven runs, but it was not enough as the last batters failed to deliver the tie-breaking or winning runs.

Man Amigos 18,
Aimeliik 1 Time 9
Man Amigos dominated Aimeliik 1 Time, 18-9, for their second win of the league.

Aimeliik wasn’t going down without a fight bringing in four runs in the first inning, but the Amigos returned the favor and more, as multiple doubles earned them a 6-4 lead heading into the third inning.

Aimeliik’s Taylor Germance rounded the bases as he nipped the ball for a two-run inning, but the rest of the lineup was immediately shut down by Amigos pitcher Eric Palacios.

Then, Man Amigos’ Manny Sablan—recent inductee into the CNMI Sports Hall of Fame—pushed the lead even more with a solo home run, followed by a big two-run home run by Joey Dela Cruz, for a 9-6 game.

Sablan and Dela Cruz were on the same wavelength that day as both of them hit one more home run each and by the time Aimeliik pitcher Ken Kaipat could recuperate, the Man Amigos were too far off into the lead for a comeback.

Hagu La’mun 15, Wazzup 7
Hagu La’mun drowned out Wazzup, 15-7.

Wazzup scored in only three out of seven innings as Hagu La’mun always had the upper hand. Superb pitching from John Acosta and his support of a tight defense allowed Wazzup only a few chances on base.

Joe Lizama nicked the ball for the only home run against Acosta but there was not enough firepower from the rest of his teammates.

Two home runs were made by Hagu La’mun’s Joe Celis and Dennis Cruz in the same inning with four runs brought in. Then, five runs scored in the fourth inning thanks to base hit after base hit from the bottom to the top of the lineup.

The game ended as Wazzup said goodbye when they couldn’t score any more runs in the last inning.

Tokahao 13, Peleliu 3
Tokahao reduced Peleliu to just three runs, 13-3, in a mercy run-ruled game.

Peleliu’s runs came only in the last couple of innings and that was it as almost unhittable pitches came from the hand of Tokahao’s George David.
Tokahao’s offense was a juxtaposition to Peleliu as three home runs came from the bats of Robert Bansil, Jojo Attao, and David himself.

Redmen 7, Asahi 1
The Redmen squashed Asahi, 7-1.

Runs trickled in slowly for the Redmen but drove one in each inning until the fifth inning saw a three run home run by Tony Pangelinan.

Asahi were in a drunken stupor the whole game as they couldn’t quite catch a good break and fell, as only Darwin Masaharu brought in their only run in the fifth inning.
