Three monthly races and three checkered flag finishes for the monster of Marpi, Justis “Cuki” Alvarez.

The 52-year-old patriarch of the Alvarez motocross racing family swept the first three editions of the Expert Class of the 2023 Monster Energy Point Series Race after dominating anew last Sunday at the Cowtown Race Track.

The boat captain stirred his land powerboat to perfect scores in both heats for 50 points. His sons—Shane and Alvarick—actually finished second and third with 44 points and 40 points, respectively.

He attributed his latest win to his spanking new bike.

“I would again definitely say it’s the new Kawasaki KX250F bikes from Cycles Plus Guam. They sponsor both Shane and I and we both love the new bikes. Shane raced his new 2023 model yesterday for the first time, so he’s still adapting to the new feel of the bike. I love the handling and the power of the bike. It’s less powerful than the 450cc I raced last year, so it is much easier to ride which translates to better results overall. The bike is easy to ride and fast and is perfect for the size track we have at Cowtown.”

He also rated the Cowtown Race Track at a perfect 10.

“Expert Class racer and board member Ellery Cruz is a wizard on our skidsteer payload tractor and was able to smoothen out some of the rough surfaces and reshape some of the jumps and berms that have been eaten up over time from constant wear and tear from all the bike tires tearing them up from so many races. So the track was very well groomed! And of course the Saipan Mayor’s Office bush-cuts all the grass before our scheduled races, so it looked like a professionally prepared golf course,” he said. “All the racers were happy with the track. Of course it was dusty as usual, but overall, it was great.”

The elder Alvarez scored 50 points in the January race before coming up with 47 points last month.

In the Mini I Class, Elleayah Cruz won both heats for 50 points, followed by Kaleb Reyes with 44 points.

The March 2023 Monster Energy Point Series Race was held a week early as riders of Marianas Racing Association are set to take part in Guam’s  Smoking Wheels set for April 22.

Results of the other divisions of the March MRA race will be published in the following issues of Saipan Tribune.
