Commonwealth Ports Authority police Sgt. Floyd Mafnas Mendiola tested positive for use of methamphetamine or “ice” last weekend while on pre-trial release in his drug case pending in federal court.

U.S. Probation Officer Gregory F. Arriola told the U.S. District Court for the NMI yesterday that when confronted about the drug test results, Mendiola admitted that he used “ice” on June 4. Mendiola also reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol that same day.

Arriola disclosed that the random drug test was done on Saturday.

Arriola said Mendiola reported to the U.S. Probation Office last Monday in which he apologized for his actions and requested to be allowed to participate in a substance abuse treatment program.

Mendiola also agreed to have his release conditions be modified to include a “no-alcohol” condition.

Arriola said Mendiola and his lawyer, Joseph Horey, agreed to modify the bail conditions.

Federal agents arrested Mendiola on May 27 after an indictment was filed charging him with conspiracy to distribute “ice” from Feb. 27 to March 2, 2013. The court then released him to a third-party custodian.
