Wahoo in the Marianas reset to March 11
Tasi To Table has postponed the 4th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas Fishing Tournament originally set tomorrow, March 4, to next Saturday, March 11.
“Due to the inclement weather forecasted for this coming Saturday and for the safety of our participants Tasi To Table has postponed the 4th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas. The new date is March 11, 2023 same place and time,” said Tasi To Table president Gene Weaver.
With the postponement, the pre-registration will now be held on March 10, 4pm-6pm at the Smiling Cove Marina.
There, officials from Tasi To Table and PSS Youth Fishing Clubs will go over the rules and regulations of the one-day tournament.
The next day on March 11, the 4th Annual Wahoo in the Marianas Fishing Tournament will proceed.
All boats must check out at Smiling Cove Marina on March 11, 2023. The Wahoo in the Marianas Fishing Tournament officially begins at 6am and continues throughout the day until 5pm.
The trolling competition will award fishermen who catch the heaviest wahoo $2,000, while the second and third heaviest will go home with $1,500 and $1,000, respectively. Total weight, which make up the three heaviest non-placing wahoo, will receive $500.
The official weigh station is at Smiling Cove Marina. In order for the catch to qualify, the tip of your boat must pass the Smiling Cove Marina’s navigational light before 5pm.
As a reminder, organizers said all boats must check in at Smiling Cove Marina regardless of any catch (personally or by contacting tournament officials).
Entrance fee is $200 per boat for one captain and two anglers. Each additional angler will cost $30.
Presentation of awards will take place immediately after official results are received from the weighmaster.
Last year, Salty Bandits reeled in a 48.2-lb wahoo to top the 3rd Annual Wahoo in the Marianas. For their efforts, captain Masaki Kitami and crew hand Austin Benavente pocketed the $2,000 top prize and bragging rights for a whole year.
