Oscar M. Babauta

Gov. Arnold I. Palacios has appointed former House of Representatives speaker Oscar M. Babauta to serve as a special assistant for his and Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang’s administration.

The appointment does not require the Senate’s advice and consent, so he can start work immediately.

The former House speaker told Saipan Tribune yesterday that he is thankful to Palacios and Apatang for their confidence in him sharing the administration’s vision and goals.

He said he is grateful being given the trust in assisting the CNMI and its people in moving forward.

Babauta served as House speaker in the 15th Legislature.

On Dec. 17, 2020, then-Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and then-Lt. Gov. Arnold Palacios appointed Babauta to serve as a member of the Northern Marianas Housing Corp. board of directors representing Saipan. He is currently a member of the NMHC board.

Babauta served as the Inauguration Committee chair for Palacios and Apatang. (Ferdie de la Torre)
