MHS, ACS teams to vie for HS co-ed badminton title

Both Marianas High School Dolphins and Agape Christian School teams are in the championship tournament after their last round-robin games in the co-ed high school Public School System/TakeCare Badminton Interscholastic League held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium last Saturday.
MHS Team 2 leads Bracket 1 with 70 points, while MHS Team 1 leads Bracket 2 with 67 points. Second in Bracket 1 is ACS Team 1 with 58 points and in Bracket 2 is ACS team 2 with 43 points.
The Dolphins 2 defeated Saipan Southern High School 2 after sweeping the girls singles, boys singles, girls doubles, and mixed doubles for 3 points each event, for a final score of 14-1. Their only loss was in the boys doubles when they couldn’t hold on for a perfect score and settled for 2 points.
The Dolphins 1 team then collected a 12-3 win against the Mantas 1 after they swept the boys doubles, girls singles, boys singles, and girls doubles events. However, they couldn’t get past the mixed doubles event and went 0-3.
For the Torchbearers 1 campaign to the championship tourney, they defeated Saipan International School Team 1, 14-1. The Torchbearers claimed a sweep of 3 points each in the boys doubles, girls singles, boys singles, and mixed doubles—save for a missed game in the girls doubles for 2 points.
The Torchbearers 2 team claimed their spot in the championship round after they bested Grace Christian Academy Team 1, 13-2. The Torchbearers blazed through all matches of the girls singles, boys singles, and girls singles events, but missed one game each in the boys doubles and mixed doubles.
In Bracket 1, SIS 1 ended the season with 36 points, GCA 2 got 33 points, SSHS 2 had 16 points, and Tinian High School had 12.
In Bracket 2, SSHS 1 garnered 42 points; Kagman High School had 41 points, GCA 1 had 23 points, and SIS 2 had 8 points.
MHS 1 will take on MHS 2, while ACS 1 will go up ACS 2 in the semifinal match this Saturday, March 4.
In the final championship round the following Saturday, March 11, ACS 2 will face off against MHS 2 and MHS 1 will challenge ACS 1.
