The Russian television program Good Morning Russia wrapped up five days of filming on Saipan last Friday, June 6, in preparation for five programs to air later this year. The programs will air to more than 1 million viewers in Russia and in 58 other countries around the world.

While on Saipan, the production team filmed typical island living with a local family, a Chamolinian wedding, a boat trip with local fishermen, diving with Speedy Turtle, island scenic and historic sites, a submarine tour, and took a discovery flight over Saipan. The program will also feature information about the Marianas Trench.

“The ’Good Morning Russia’ media FAM tour was somewhat unique in that they wanted to showcase a bit of island lifestyle by filming with a local family and fishermen,” said Marianas Visitors Authority marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “With the wide distribution of this show around the world, it’s a good opportunity to show Russian visitors an inside look at the Northern Marianas. Our exit surveys show that Russians and other visitors want to see local culture.”

Lodging was provided by Saipan World Resort and Pacific Island Club Saipan. (MVA)
