The 17th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council presented to Saipan Mayor Ramon “RB” Camacho at the council’s first session on Feb. 10 an ordinance that would require the creation of a Saipan municipal treasury within the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

The presentation, held at the Saipan Leadership Kiosku in Chalan Kanoa, Saipan, caps the 13-year journey of Saipan Municipal Ordinance 10-01-2010, which Camacho had authored when he was still the chairman of the 10th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council. The local ordinance had been approved by former Saipan Mayor Juan B. Tudela.

Saipan Municipal Ordinance 10-01-2010 was one of two ordinances the council leadership presented to Camacho at the meeting on Feb. 10.

Council chairwoman Marian DLG Tudela presented the two Saipan municipal ordinances to Camacho for the implementation of a Saipan Municipal Treasury division within the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

“This is a significant presentation to the then-author of the 2010 municipal ordinance, now the current Saipan mayor 13 years later, as part of this new municipal government leadership’s commitment in building its capacity by taking certain foundational post-COVID and post-ARPA steps in moving forward and building a solid self-sustaining municipal governance regime sustained by creative municipal revenue production strategies and innovative revenue generating capacity and financing,” said Tudela. “To ensure optimal and efficient application of the municipal revenues would require building an internal capacity by the Saipan municipal leadership of Mayor Camacho and the 17th Saipan Municipal Council toward building an effective, efficient, reliable, and accountable municipal fiscal agent.” (PR/Saipan Tribune)
