The Department of Public Lands announced yesterday that it will lift the moratorium on the issuance of temporary beach concession permits for the island of Saipan and will be accepting applications effective immediately.

According to a news release from the Office of the Governor, the lifting of this moratorium will allow DPL to authorize interested individuals to utilize designated areas adjacent to boundary corners of hotels or within the vicinity, to the perimeter boundaries of the public lands for commercial activities involving motorized and non-motorized water crafts.

“Up to 20 permits will be issued per year due to limited space and safety reasons. The number of permits may be reduced if the Division of Fish and Wildlife, Coastal Resource Management or other CNMI and federal governments determine that the marine sports activities cause an impact on marine life species and/or their habitats are disrupted, harmed or destroyed resulting from such activities,” it stated.  (Office of the Goverbor)
