DPS’ license system remains down
The Department of Public Safety has just notified the community that their license system remains down and members of the public have raised concerns about it.
“I was given a temporary certificate when I renewed my license but to date, I haven’t received an update on when my ID would be issued. It’s been over a week,” said a concerned motorist.
The motorist, a 26-year-old, stated that she had renewed her driver’s license over a week ago and she has yet to be told when it would be ready and it has become frustrating.
“If their system is down, I understand, but we need IDs like at the banks and it’s more convenient for me to carry around a license instead of a passport. We should at least know when we can expect them,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Safety’s Bureau of Motor Vehicles confirmed over the weekend that its Real ID driver’s license system is undergoing maintenance.
DPS stated that while their system remains down, BMV will continue to issue temporary licenses.
This means that motorists applying for a Real ID or a non-Real ID driver’s license will be issued a temporary certificate, which will be valid for 15 days. Once the Real ID machine maintenance is completed, those temporary certificates will be replaced with a regular Real ID or non-Real ID driver’s license cards.
In the event the maintenance of the machines is not completed in 15 days, the temporary certificates can be updated free of charge by BMV, DPS said.
