Ramsey, Abel are Top 2 seeds in men’s open
Colin Ramsey and Tomas Abel may likely meet again in the finals of the men’s open of the 2023 White Coconut Classic Tennis Tournament set to start this weekend at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
This, after the two protagonists of the men’s finals of the recent 2023 SIS Student Council Tennis Tournament are seeded No. 1 (Ramsey) and No. 2 (Abel) in the two-weekend competition. Ramsey beat Abel in two sets in the SIS tourney.
In the women’s open, familiar foes Hye Jin Elliot and Serin Chung are the players to beat with the former probably wanting payback after Chung surprised her in the aforementioned SIS tourney last month.
Ramsey is teaming up with Taher Shakir as the top seed in the mixed doubles with Simon Tang and Siwoo Lee giving them the biggest challenge as the second-seeded pair.
In the boys 12, Jinho Cody Park is atop the totem pole with Minjoon Michael Jeon next in line.
Stella Choi and Vivian Chung are 1-2 in the girls 12, while Nason Wessel and Yutaka Kadokura will duke it out in the boys 14 as the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds, respectively.
In the boys 16, Siwoo Lee, Simon Tang, Wataru Kadokura, June Yu, and Henry Choi are all entered with no discernable favorite.
Ditto for the girls 16 where Anne Lee, Irin Chung, and Hoo Wang will try to outplay each other.
In the men’s 40, Gary Ramsey, Paul Jang, and John Bradley will try to relive their salad days in the sport, while Dev Bachani is briefly exchanging his soccer cleats for tennis shoes as the No. 1 seed in the men’s 3.0, where Jay Achas is the second seed.
Fellow soccer player Cody Shimizu holds fort as the top seed in the men’s 4.0 with Taher Shakir providing the biggest threat as the second seed.
