Surveillance camera leads to arrest of suspect in burglary
A surveillance camera reportedly led to the identification of Conrad Anthony Borja Iba, an ex-convict who was allegedly behind the burglary at a laundry shop in Chalan Kanoa last month.
Iba, 37, was arrested Friday in China Town on charges of burglary and theft. His bail was set at $50,000 cash.
Preliminary hearing will be on June 17 at 1:30pm.
Police detective Roque K. Camacho stated in his report that he was driving a police car along Chalan Kanoa Road in Chalan Kanoa on March 22, 2014, when a cashier at Shany Laundry and Poker flagged him down.
Camacho said the cashier told him that someone went into the storage room of Shany Laundry and stole “350 coins” that were kept in buckets.
The cashier disclosed that their maintenance worker discovered the coins missing on May 20, 2014. She disclosed that the suspect was captured by the surveillance camera during the incident that happened on the night of May 19, 2014.
Camacho said he reviewed the footage and identified the person who entered the storage room as Iba.
Camacho said he told the cashier that at that same date and time, he was driving an unmarked police vehicle at the back of Shany Laundry and spotted Iba walking out from the laundry.
Camacho said Iba walked fast and immediately turned to the left when he saw the unmarked police vehicle.
The detective said that Iba had been arrested several times in the past for various criminal offenses and is currently on probation.
