The Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority will be receiving $1.48 million in fiscal year 2023 from the Federal Transit Administration, according to Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (D-MP) over the weekend.

Sablan disclosed in his e-kilili newsletter that the FTA announced Friday the availability of this funding for COTA.

FTA said nearly $1.7 billion is available to support state and local efforts to modernize aging transit fleets with low-and no-emission buses, renovate and construct bus facilities, and support workforce development.

Sablan said the formula funds apportioned to the Marianas come mainly through the Rural Area Formula Program and the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula Program.

He said the Rural Area Formula Program supports public transportation in areas with populations of less than 50,000.

Sablan said the Buses and Bus Facilities Formula Program supports replacement, rehabilitation, and purchase of buses and related equipment and the construction of bus-related facilities. (Ferdie de la Torre)
