The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s Community Guidance Center delivered the two-day Ethics in Prevention: An Introduction to the Ethical Code and Decision-Making Process training on Jan. 19 to 20, 2023.

The training was facilitated by Pacific Behavioral Heath Collaborating Council executive director James Arriola, CGC administrative services manager Reyna Saures, and CGC Healthy Transitions program manager Tiara N. Evangelista.

The Pacific jurisdiction-adapted training curriculum was developed under the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for the Application of Prevention Technologies, in consultation with Arriola.

With support from CHCC chief executive officer Esther L. Muña, the first cohort of the training included CGC director Joe Kevin Villagomez and the management team. Subsequent trainings in the upcoming months will be delivered to all CGC personnel, key CHCC management, behavioral health partners, and stakeholders on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

In an effort to build local and Pacific Islander workforce capacity in the area of behavioral health, CHCC, in collaboration with the PBHCC, strives to make local-based training more accessible to address ongoing needs. The course is based on the sciences of the field with adaptations for Pacific Islanders. This training will enhance the existing workforce with the opportunity for collaboration with other health and public services partners.

A regional Training of Trainers for the United States Affiliated Pacific Island Nations was conducted in November 2022 in Guam that brought a select group of representatives from the Pacific jurisdictions of the CNMI, Guam, Federated States of Micronesia, and Palau. Future T.O.T. will be extended to the Republic of the Marshall Islands and American Samoa representatives. (CHCC)
