Sablan

Joe Joe Sablan caught the last bus for Saipan Golfers Association’s 2022 Ace of Aces Tournament after topping the final monthly competition of the year last Jan. 15 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.

He went 46-48 in the front and back nine for a gross of 94. Minus his 24 handicap, Sablan came away with a 70 net score to win the SGA December Ace of the Month Tournament.

Larry Deleon Guerrero actually tied Sablan with his own net 70, based on a 92 gross (50-42) and a 22 handicap, but lost in a scorecard tiebreaker.

Third and fourth place was also a tie between Nick Sablan and Rick Kautz with both veteran golfers firing net scores of 77. Sablan (gross 85, 42-43), however, edged Kautz (88, 47-41) on the proverbial tiebreaking hole.

In the closest to the pin competition, Kautz was the lone winner after topping hole No. 13. There were no winners in holes No. 3, 7, and 17.
In the longest drive, Nick Sablan brought the lumber in hole No. 2. Ditto for Kautz in hole No. 18.

By virtue of winning the December Ace, Joe Sablan now joins Edward C. Sablan (January), Frances M. Sablan (February), Nick C. Sablan (March), Larry I. Deleon Guerrero (April), Alex Tudela (May), Mariano Fajardo (June), Rick Kautz (July), Das Krishnan (August), Ed Manibusan (September), Tony Benavente (October), and Jung Eun Teack (November) in the 2022 SGA Ace of the Month Tournament.

And speaking of the SGA 2022 Ace of Aces Tournament, the season-ending two-round competition is scheduled this weekend, Jan. 28 and 29, with the latter scheduled as the January Ace of the Month Tournament.
