GAIN condemns viral video of dog being clubbed
GUAM—A video surfaced on social media last Wednesday, Jan. 25, showing a young man clubbing a dog with a piece of wood, severely injuring and possibly killing the animal. Later that same day, the Guam Police Department announced the arrest of the suspect and the cameraman involved in the crime.
The shocking video has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice. “I’ve received calls and messages all day. People are outraged,” said Gabe Baker, a board member of Guam Animals In Need.
“The video is not just disturbing, it’s sickening. These monsters thought it was funny to viciously beat a trusting dog,” said Baker. “We can’t unsee it, but we can come together to speak out against this violence. We must make sure that justice is served for this innocent animal and for the entire community.”
Baker also emphasized the need to hold dangerous animal abusers accountable, due to the link between animal abuse and other forms of violence. “Animal abusers are not just a threat to animals, they are a threat to society as a whole,” said Baker. “Research shows that people who abuse animals are far more likely to also abuse humans, especially children and partners. We need to hold them accountable for their actions, not only for the welfare of animals, but also for the safety of families and the community.”
GAIN urges anyone with additional information about this crime to report it to the authorities. The organization also encourages anyone who sees or suspects other incidents of animal abuse to report it immediately.
