$20K bail set for man accused of beating his elderly mother
The Superior Court has imposed a $20,000 cash bail on a man accused of beating his elderly mother.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho imposed last Friday a $20,000 cash bail on Jason D. Yamada, who allegedly beat his elderly mother because he didn’t want to help her change her soiled adult diaper.
Aside from the soiled diaper incident last week, the victim alleges that Yamada had beaten her before and had threatened to kill her and her husband numerous times.
Yamada, 27, is facing charges of disturbing the peace, assault, assault and battery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and senior citizen physical abuse and/or mental cruelty and domestic violence.
The defendant was remanded back to Department of Corrections custody after failing to post bail. He was ordered to return to court on Jan. 20 for a preliminary hearing while his arraignment is set for Jan. 30.
According to court documents, Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to a residence in As Lito last Jan. 11 to respond to an assault complaint. At the scene, DPS officers met with an elderly, disabled woman wearing a T-shirt and diapers.
The woman told responding officers that she was afraid of her son, Yamada, because he had just threatened to kill her and her husband. Responding officers noted that the woman was crying and shaking as she talked to police.
The victim said that around 10am that day, she asked Yamada to help her change her diapers because she soiled them but he refused and told her, “Better you die.”
The victim’s husband, in a separate interview, told police that Yamada had told him earlier that day to leave the elderly woman home instead of bringing her to work. However, moment later, the victim’s husband said he overheard Yamada say he was going to kill his wife and him, which prompted him to seek police assistance.
The victim’s husband also told police that there were instances in October and December 2022 when Yamada would slap the victim multiple times and would admit to what he did because he said, “She’s useless anyway.”
The victim’s husband also told police that the elderly woman was confined at the Commonwealth Health Center back in December because Yamada had slapped her.
