The Queens of Diamond is closer than ever to the softball crown as they ruled Game 1 of the best-of-three championship  against the Hot Shots, 7-6, in the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball League last Sunday at the Dandan Softball Field.

While the Hot Shots made it past home plate to open up the game, the Queens put their swinging into fifth gear in their turn with the bat, bringing in four runs in the first inning for a three-run lead.

They were neck-and-neck from then on as the Hot Shots found some horsepower within their lineup to score three runs for a tied game. The tie was short-lived though as one run was scored by the Queens, followed by a goose egg from the Hot Shots in the next inning, for a 5-4 game.

One more run was made in the third inning by Queens pitcher Bert Camacho to boost the lead by two runs.

The Hot Shots then equalized as they found the rhythm in their swings for two runs by Keona Rogopes and Devonne Sablan in the fourth inning.

Silence then reigned in the next innings for both teams until a clutch run was made by Queens leading batter Kiana Aldan, who scored the tie-breaking seventh run, for a final score of 7-6.

Game 2 of the championship continues this Sunday, Dec. 18, at 10am. If needed, Game 3 is scheduled for 12pm.

For the men’s division, Game 1 of the best-of-three championship between Tokahao and Hagu La’mun starts at 9am, with Game 2 at 11am. If needed, Game 3 is scheduled for 1pm.
