Sherlyn Jones won her third CNMI Women’s Golf Association monthly tournament of the season—and fourth for the calendar year—last Saturday at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Talafofo.

The retired Commonwealth Health Center nurse topped the CWGA December tournament after shooting a net 77 after a gross score of 87. The 10-handicapper started with a 40 in the front nine before closing with a 47 in the back nine.

Jones beat a 10-player field that included runner-up Yuko Togawa with her net 79 (gross 82, 38-44) and third place Doll Yamagishi with her net 80 (gross 94, 46-48).

“The weather was beautiful and the course smelled of freshly cut grass and the sound of nature all around you. I just enjoyed the whole 18 holes,” she said.

Jones, who also won the May and the August editions of the tournament plus the January ace last season, started playing the sport after being invited by Terry Attao to play a round in 2007.

“I’m dedicating this game to my family. I’m just grateful for being able to play this sport. Always go out there and enjoy your game with family and friends,” said the Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia native.

Aside from Jones, Togawa, and Yamagishi, the other CWGA members that took part in the December tourney are the following with their net scores in parenthesis: SaeHae Kim (82), Sunny Son (83), Flor Jones (84), and Lou Kim (84). Tina Goodwin and Kanae Quinn also played as guests and shot a 93 and 96, respectively.

With her victory, Jones broke a three-way tie for most wins for the season. Togawa also previously won in June and July, while Son Hyun topped the September and October tourneys. Jang EunAe was the winner last month (November).
