The Christmas season is here and every Friday at 5:30pm for the month of December, Hyatt Regency Saipan’s lobby will turn into a stage to showcase local talents from different schools in Saipan and bring in the yuletide cheer to in-house guests and the community.
Three groups from Saipan International School are first on deck to perform today. They are the SIS Ensemble, SIS Elementary School Girls dance group, and siblings Jesse and Soledad Sablan who will serenade the crowd with their ukulele playing.
The SIS Ensemble members are composed of high school students devoted to playing enchanting music using woodwind instruments. These children have mastered woodwind instruments such as the flute and clarinet.
The SIS elementary school girls dance group is composed of students from second grade to fifth grade. According to teacher Pamela Walsh, these children are bursting with creativity in the performing arts. “They are excited to perform!”
SIS senior Jesse Sablan and sophomore Soledad Sablan treat playing the ukulele together as their bonding time. “We have been playing together before we did division. We hope that our music will entertain people’s music taste buds,” Jesse said.
“I first got the chance to teach ukulele in the10th grade during the COVID-19 pandemic and I entrusted the duties upon my sister to be my co-teacher. Together, we taught close to a dozen children for nearly five months,” Jesse added
