The Marianas Tourism Education Council and Marianas Visitors Authority kicked off their annual schools presentations about tourism at Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Middle School on Nov. 16, 2022, and Marianas High School on Monday last Nov. 21.
“We are excited to reboot our annual student presentations this year and sincerely thank the high schools and middle schools for making time this semester for their students to learn about the Marianas tourism economy and the work of the MVA,” said acting MTEC chairwoman Vicky Benavente. “We look forward to engaging with more schools in the coming weeks and months.”
MTEC and the MVA aim to visit all public schools with the message, “Tourism is Everybody’s Business,” this year targeting 10th, 7th, and 5th graders.
The presentations provide a general overview of the Marianas tourism industry, how students benefit from the industry, and how they can help support tourism even at a young age. The presentation also details the divisions and programs of the MVA in promoting the Marianas.

“It’s a pleasure to again partner with MTEC on reaching out to our young people who are important contributors to our tourism industry today, as well as our workforce and industry leaders of tomorrow,” said MVA acting managing director Judy C. Torres. “We also hope these presentations will plant a seed for more young people to aspire to a career in travel and tourism.”
The kickoff presentations were led by MTEC board members Catherine Perry and Glenn Policare and MVA Community Projects specialist Jack Aranda.
Other MTEC board members are Martin Duenas (MVA), Dr. Galvin Guerrero (Northern Marianas College), Larry Lee, Naomi Nishimura (CNMI Public School System), and Gordon Marciano (PDI). Dr. Yunzi Zhang of Northern Marianas College School of Business also volunteers with the council. (MVA)
