$10K bail set for man who allegedly strangled his girlfriend
The Superior Court has imposed a $10,000 cash bail on a man accused of strangling his girlfriend because she hadn’t texted him to ask how he was doing.
Superior Court Associate Judge Wesley Bogdan imposed last week a $10,000 cash bail on Michael Jordan Palacios Cabrera, who is accused of strangling his girlfriend after a heated argument over the victim’s failure to text him.
Cabrera, 34, is facing charges of assault and battery, strangulation, and disturbing the peace.
Following his bail hearing and initial appearance, the judge remanded Cabrera back to Department of Corrections custody and ordered him return to court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 23 at 10am. The judge set Camacho’s arraignment on Nov. 28 at 9am.
According to court documents, Department of Public Safety officers were dispatched to a residence on Capital Hill last Nov. 16 to respond to a disturbance report that was called in earlier that evening.
At the scene, police met with the victim who said that she was physically assaulted by Cabrera and he had already left the residence.
Police stated that they noticed the victim had a small cut on her lower lip, scratch marks on her right hand and right thigh, and a scratch mark on her lower right cheek.
Camacho was later found at Club 88 poker in Garapan and was arrested.
The victim told investigators that she got into an argument with Cabrera on the afternoon of Nov. 15 because she did not send him a text message asking him how he was doing.
That evening, Cabrera went to the woman’s apartment and asked her if he could talk with her. She said she let him in to hear him out.
As they were talking on the balcony, the victim said Cabrera got angry and locked her out. When he unlocked the door to let her in, Cabrera allegedly grabbed her phone before pushing her to the floor. The victim said she hit the back of her head on the floor, which made her feel dizzy.
She said that Cabrera kicked her twice on both legs while she was down on the floor.
When she got back up, the victim said she grabbed her phone back from Cabrera, but he slapped her in the face multiple times, knocking her down again.
She said she managed to get up and run into the bathroom but Cabrera chased after her and she was unable to close the door fast enough. Cabrera allegedly took the woman’s phone again but she wouldn’t let him. The victim claims she tried to scream but Cabrera allegedly used one arm to cover her nose and mouth, preventing her from breathing while reportedly using his other arm to push the back of her head forward for leverage. As she was about to pass out, Cabrera let her go and left.
