The CNMI’s Carol Lee made it to the semifinals of the 2022 ITA National Fall Championships before the Yellow Jacket fell to No. 1 seed Fiona Crawley of North Carolina at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California.

The Georgia Tech No. 1 singles player lost to Crawley, who is also the reigning ITA All-American singles champion, in a score of 6-1, 6-0 last Nov. 5.

Lee blamed the straight sets loss for being under the weather.

“If I was in a good condition which I wasn’t during the week due to high fever and cold, and physically I had few problems on my back and my abductor, I think physically I would stay on the court longer and have more energy,” she said in a social message to Saipan Tribune.

Lee’s doubles partner Kate Sharabura, who along with Lee were the doubles champion of the ITA Southeast Regional last month, also caught the bug and that contributed to them losing in the opening round of the San Diego tourney.

Despite the loss to Crawley in the semis, Lee still capped her fall season with an impressive 3-1 record, including a 6-2, 6-2 win over University of Virginia’s Elaine Chervinsky in the semis.
